Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2/3 Cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 3/4 Cup Water
  • 1 Dram (1tsp) Flavoring Oil
  • Food Coloring
  • Powered Sugar (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Mix first 3 ingredients in a large saucepan.

Step 2

Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.

Step 3

Boil, without stirring, until temperature reaches 310° or until drops of syrup form hard, brittle threads in cold water.

Step 4

Remove from heat.

Step 5

After boiling has ceased, stir in flavoring and coloring.

Step 6

Pour onto lightly greased cookie sheet.

Step 7

Cool and break into pieces.

Step 8

Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Step 9

Store in airtight containers.

Hints I found to be helpful. Please keep in mind this is personal preference.
Spearmint - 1 dram is good
Cinnamon - 1 dram is good, if you want it hotter, then add 2 drams
Peach - 1 dram is weak, I would add 2 drams
Sassafras - 1 dram is alright, I would add 1/2 a dram more
