Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter or Margarine softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 eggs
- 1-1/3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1-1/2 cups chopped peeled tart apples
- CUSTARD SAUCE
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine softened
- 1/2 teaspoon vanila extract
- Additional ground cloves optional
Preparation
Step 1
In a mixing bowl cram butter, sugar and cloves. Add eggs one a the time beating well after each.
Step 2
Combine flour and baking powder
Step 3
add creamed mixture alternating with milk.
Step 4
slowly fold in apples.
Step 5
Transfer to a greased and floured 9 inch round pan. Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack
Step 6
In a saucepan combine sugar, flour and milk until smooth. I like to use whisk. Bring to boil over medium heat, cook and stir for approx. 2 minutes until thickened and bubbly
Step 7
Remove from the heat. Stir small amount into egg and return all to pan. Bring to gentle boil, and again cook and stir for approx. 2 minutes
Step 8
Remove from heat and whisk in butter and vanilla.
Step 9
Serve over warm cake and sprinkle with ground cloves if desired
be careful not to let Custard stick to the bottom of the pan
