Ingredients

  • 2 peeled onions
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 - 3 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup nonfat breadcrumbs or 3/4 cup lowfat breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Step 2

Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray.

Step 3

Slice the onions width wise and then break them apart into rings.

Step 4

Get 4 bowls. First bowl, ice cold water. Put the flour in 2nd bowl, the egg whites into a third, and into the fourth put the bread crumbs and all the spices (all the rest of the ingredients)

Step 5

Place all onion slices into bowl of ice cold water. Shake off excess water prior to dipping onions into flour bowl.

Step 6

Dip each onion ring into the flour, then the egg whites, and then the bread crumbs. Place on baking sheet.

Step 7

Bake them all for about 20 minutes or until crispy.

The ice cold water part aids the onion rings in staying crispy through baking, instead of them turning to mush.
