Brie Bowl

By

sweet, creamy, HARDY appetizer, desert, or communal munchie. Excellent option when feeding a small gathering, everyone can gather around and experience together. This is a "wintery" dish, but is great year round, and great with wine!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of sour dough bread
  • 2 apples or pears
  • 1 round of brie cheese
  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon
  • allspice
  • splash of orange juice

Preparation

Step 1

Cut off the top of the sour dough bread loaf. Hollow the bread out to make a bowl, saving the pulled chunks of bread in another bowl (for dipping!)

Step 2

Chop apples or pears. Shake them up to coat with a little orange juice, then cook them in a skillet with a little butter. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and allspice to taste. Saute until the apples/pears are very soft.

Step 3

Cut the rind/covering off of the brie. This is the most annoying part of the process. The outside should be edible, but the taste is gross.

Step 4

After the apples are soft and the brie has bee prepared, "layer" the cheese and apples inside of the hollow bread bowl.

Step 5

Put the bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes, or until everything is gooey and creamy. Stir it once or twice while baking.

Step 6

Serve warm/immediately. Dip the bread chunks into the brie mix, or scoop it onto the bread.
