Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 - 2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 - 1 c. bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate chips (if desired)
  • 1 c. melted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together dry ingredients in a bowl. This mix can then be put in a jar or airtight container and kept in your pantry for a loooong time, or given as a gift.

Step 2

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add wet ingredients and mix until well combined. You don't want any nasty dry chunks in your brownies (or those nasty eggy bits you sometimes get if you don't mix enough).

Step 3

Grease a pan - the size is up to personal preference. If you like thinner brownies, use a 9 x 13. If you like thicker, gooier brownies, use an 8 x 11. Either size you choose, just grease that baby up. Or use parchment paper to line the pan (it won't be a perfect fit, don't worry, it's a very thick batter) for super easy cleanup.

Step 4

Bake for 22-25 minutes or until toothpicks inserted in the center (test different spots just in case you hit a chocolate chip if you added them) come out clean. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.

The smaller the pan you use, the longer you'll have to cook your brownies to make sure they're done in the middle - so just keep an eye on them as they bake and check around 25 minutes.
