- Easy
- Budget Friendly
Ingredients
- at least a ziploc bag full of blackberries
- sugar
- cinnamon
- lemon juice
- pectin
- mason jars with lids
Preparation
Step 1
Locate and pick your berries. They like to grow on inclines, near ditches, interstates, everywhere.
Step 2
Count how many cups of blackberries you have. Wash the berries off and place them in a large pot. Mash them down with a fork, potato masher, or other squashing mechanism of your choice. Stir and let it boil.
Step 3
Add sugar. A LOT of sugar. Try half a cup of sugar for every cup of fruit you used. You might want to add more if its not sweet enough. Some people like the 1:1 sugar/fruit ratio.
Step 4
Add cinnamon and lemon juice. Just a few drops of lemon juice, but be generous with the cinnamon.
Step 5
Add pectin. Use the instructions on the box to determine how much you need based on how much fruit you have. Mix well.
Step 6
Turn the burner down, let it start to congeal. Skim off the top layer of foam.
Step 7
Pour into the mason jars. Let the jam and the jars cool completely before you put the lids on, otherwise the glue on the lids will melt from the hot glass and you won't get a tight seal.
Step 8
Serve or store!
