Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tspn Thyme (fresh, chopped)
- 3/4 tspn Salt
- 1/2 tspn Pepper
- 2-1/2 cups Milk
- 6 Potatoes (Yukon Gold, peeled and thinly sliced)
- 1 Onion (small, sliced)
Preparation
Step 1
In saucepan, melt butter over med heat; cook garlic, stirring, for 1 min. Add flour, thyme, salt and pepper; cook, stirring, for 1 min.
Step 2
Gradually whisk in milk; cook, whisking constantly, until boiling and thickened, approx 8 min.
Step 3
Peel and thinly slice potatoes. Layer one-third in greased baking dish; spread half of the onion on top. Repeat layers. Arrange remaining potatoes over top. Pour sauce on top, using back of knife to ease sauce between layers.
Step 4
Cover and bake in 350°F (180°C) oven for 1 hour. Uncover and bake until lightly browned and potatoes are tender, about 30 min. Let stand for 5 min before serving.
