Bread- Naan Rolls

Ingredients

  • •300ml lukewarm milk
  • •30ml soft butter
  • •65ml sugar
  • •35ml oil
  • •1 egg, beaten
  • •4 – 4 ½ cups plain flour
  • •1 packet instant dry yeast
  • •7ml salt
  • •Fennel seeds or sesame seeds

Preparation

Step 1

In a bowl or jug mix together the milk, butter, sugar, oil and egg.
Mix well.
Set aside.

Step 2

In a large bowl sift flour. Sprinkle the yeast and salt over the flour.

Step 3

*Add liquid mixture to flour. Mix into soft dough.
Add additional flour if needed and to clean sides of bowl and hand.

Step 4

*Knead for 10-15 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic on oiled surface.
*Leave dough in large, lightly oiled bowl to double in volume.
*Cover with lightly oiled cling-wrap.

Step 5

*Divide mixture into half.
*Shape each half into a sausage and cut into equal sized pieces. *

Step 6

*Shape pieces of dough into a round roll.
* Shape the dough as follows: With the piece of dough on the working surface, cup the dough with the palm of your hand.
Do not lift dough from the surface.
*Now gently roll dough with the palm of your hand in an anti-clockwise direction until a smooth well-shaped roll is obtained.

Step 7

Repeat this technique with the rest of the dough. *On completing the shaping of the roll, place each roll next to each other in a prepared round or rectangular tin / pyrex.

Step 8

*Leave to double in size. *Cover with lightly oiled clingwrap.
Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with fennel seeds and / or sesame seeds.

Step 9

*Bake at 180/ 325 degrees for 30 minutes or until completely baked.
Brush with butter.
