Decor-Eat's interview
Interview by Laurence
I started blogging right at the end of 2011, and initially was just sharing images of home decor, food and fashion that I liked on Tumblr. That summer, I really got into cooking and wanted to share my favorite go-to recipes with friends and family. I started Decor-Eat with a post about skinny sangria, and saw a lot of positive response that inspired me to keep blogging.
Yes, definitely. I read a lot of other foodie blogs, and have loved trying all the recipes other bloggers are sharing. I hope to attract new readers by sharing new and inspiring posts.
My earliest food memory is from my neighborhood Mexican restaurant growing up, or as my family liked to call it, "home cooking". I can remember going to the restaurant as a toddler and eating a bowl of their shredded cheese. It was my favorite food. These days I am a much healthier eater, but that Mexican restaurant is still my guilty pleasure.
I'd love to one day have a cooking and home decor store that brings the style of the blog to a brick and mortar with an online shop. I'd also love to compile a cookbook at some point too.
These are some of my favorites recipes. I often alternate between the chicken enchiladas, shrimp skewers, salmon and turkey burgers.
Easy Chicken Enchiladas
Quinoa, Avocado Summer Salad
Spicy Tomato Basil Shrimp Skewers
Cedar Plank Salmon on the Grill
Pesto and Feta Cheese Turkey Burgers
I think I'd have the say The Taste. I love that they blind taste test the food putting home cooks and professional chefs on an even playing field.
Ha, well in New York kitchens are infamous for tiny spaces, lack of updated appliances or lack of appliances period. So on that note, I'd love to have a dishwasher and dish disposal.
When I have my own kitchen, I would love for it to be an open format, so there is no wall between the kitchen and living room. That way when you have people over you can cook, but still feel like a part of the party. Aside from that, I'd want a walk-in pantry with custom shelves for storing unusual items like cookie sheets, and a convection oven so you can cook items indoors like you would on the grill.
My mom. She has taught me pretty much everything I know about cooking that I haven't learned through trial and error.
I really hadn't thought much about food styling until I started blogging. I think a mixture of colorful ingredients make any dish beautiful, but that it's also important to set the stage. Laying out table decorations like napkins, silverware and glasses, and having an extra plate of the food to be in the background helps do that. I also think a bird's-eye-view photo of the spread can look really nice.

Hello Decor-Eat, so tell us...
When did you begin your blog, and what inspired you to start it?
I started blogging right at the end of 2011, and initially was just sharing images of home decor, food and fashion that I liked on Tumblr. That summer, I really got into cooking and wanted to share my favorite go-to recipes with friends and family. I started Decor-Eat with a post about skinny sangria, and saw a lot of positive response that inspired me to keep blogging.
Are you involved in the blogging community - how do you attract new readers?
Yes, definitely. I read a lot of other foodie blogs, and have loved trying all the recipes other bloggers are sharing. I hope to attract new readers by sharing new and inspiring posts.
What is your earliest food memory?
My earliest food memory is from my neighborhood Mexican restaurant growing up, or as my family liked to call it, "home cooking". I can remember going to the restaurant as a toddler and eating a bowl of their shredded cheese. It was my favorite food. These days I am a much healthier eater, but that Mexican restaurant is still my guilty pleasure.
In your wildest dreams, where is your blog going to take you as it develops?
I'd love to one day have a cooking and home decor store that brings the style of the blog to a brick and mortar with an online shop. I'd also love to compile a cookbook at some point too.
What are some of your go to meals and snacks?
These are some of my favorites recipes. I often alternate between the chicken enchiladas, shrimp skewers, salmon and turkey burgers.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?
I think I'd have the say The Taste. I love that they blind taste test the food putting home cooks and professional chefs on an even playing field.
If money were no object, how would you change your kitchen?
Ha, well in New York kitchens are infamous for tiny spaces, lack of updated appliances or lack of appliances period. So on that note, I'd love to have a dishwasher and dish disposal.
When I have my own kitchen, I would love for it to be an open format, so there is no wall between the kitchen and living room. That way when you have people over you can cook, but still feel like a part of the party. Aside from that, I'd want a walk-in pantry with custom shelves for storing unusual items like cookie sheets, and a convection oven so you can cook items indoors like you would on the grill.
Do you have a secret weapon in the kitchen?
My mom. She has taught me pretty much everything I know about cooking that I haven't learned through trial and error.
You clearly take a lot of time over your photos, what do you think makes a dish beautiful?
I really hadn't thought much about food styling until I started blogging. I think a mixture of colorful ingredients make any dish beautiful, but that it's also important to set the stage. Laying out table decorations like napkins, silverware and glasses, and having an extra plate of the food to be in the background helps do that.
