Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cup Flour
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • ¾ cup Shortening or oil
  • ¼ cup Molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • ¼ cup sugar

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl place about half of the flour. Add the brown sugar, shortening, molasses, egg, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.

Step 2

Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed till thoroughly combined, scraping sides of the bowl occasionally. Then beat or stir in the remaining flour.

Step 3

Shape the dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in the sugar to coat. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

Step 4

Bake in a 375 F oven for 8 to 10 minutes or till edges are set and tops are crackled.

Step 5

Cool on cookie sheet for one minute.
