Apple Dumplings

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 6 Tbsp chilled, unsalted margarine cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup low fat milk
- FILLING
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 small granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and halved

Preparation
Step 1
To prepare pastry shells, in a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix well. Using a pasty blender or 2 knives, cut margarine into flour mixture until coarse crumbs form. Add milk, tossing with a fork, until a soft dough forms. Shape dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
Step 2
To prepare filling, in a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon. Mix well.
Step 3
Preheat oven to 400F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. On a floured surface, roll dough out to a 1/8 inch thick rectangle. Cut dough in to 8 even squares. Gather trimmings. Roll trimmings out to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out pastry leaves.
Step 4
Place half an apple in center of each pastry square. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples. Brush edges with water. Fold pastry over apples. Press seams together to seal. Brush with water, place pastry leaves on top. Bake until golden, about 30 minutes. Place baking sheet on wire rack to cool.
