Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless round steak cut in to cubes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 can (14 1/2 oz) beef broth
  • 1 can (14 1/2 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cp chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 cp chopped onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • Hot cooked rice or noodles

Preparation

Step 1

In large skillet, cook beef in oil over medium heat heat until browned, then drain. Stir in broth, tomatoes, green pepper, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and seasons. Bring to a boil, reduce heat. Cover and let simmer one hour. Discard bay leaf.

Step 2

Combine cornstarch and water until smooth. Stir in to the beef. Bring to a boil and cook for about 2 minutes until thickened.

Step 3

Serve over rice or noodles

I use a bit more cornstarch than is noted because I like a thicker sauce
