Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 2 cups
  • Urad dal flour - 1/2 cup
  • asafetida - pinch
  • cumin - 1 tsp
  • Water as required
  • Salt - 2 tsp
  • Oil - to deep fry

Preparation

Step 1

Urad dal flour: Dry roast urad dal and grind it.

Rice flour: Wash and soak the raw rice 1 hour. Drain water completely and then spread the raw rice in a cloth and allow it to dry. Grind it to a fine powder in a mixer and sieve it. Dry roast the sieved flour until the flour becomes warm. Cool and store it.



Mix rice flour, urad dal flour, asafetida, cumin and salt.

Add 2 tbsp of hot oil to the dry mixture.

Add water and form dough. The dough will be soft and sticky.

Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.

Fill the dough into the sev maker.

Put a pinch of batter into the hot oil. If it rises immediately then the oil is of correct temperature.

Press the maker as to the dough comes out , either directly on the hot oil or one a Ziploc cover greased with oil and place the dough onto oil.

Remove it once it become golden brown, flipping in between.

Turn off the flame.
