Ingredients
- Goya dried green split peas
- Yellow onion
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Cooked Ham bone, with some meat still on it
- Olive Oil
Preparation
Step 1
Brown the yellow onion in olive oil, at the bottom of a big pot.
Step 2
Put the ham bone in the pot.
Step 3
Fill the pot with water, leaving about three inches from the top.
Step 4
Pour in the peas.
Step 5
Cook until the peas are soft and no longer hard.
Step 6
Most of the ham chunks will fall off the bone (literally) into the soup.
Step 7
Carve any stubborn chunks from the bone and mix it in the soup.
Step 8
Remove and discard the ham bone.
Step 9
Season the soup with freshly ground black pepper.
