Rachel's interview
Interview by Lydia
I began my blog last August. I love to bake, have since I was little. When I was in my twenties, my mom gave me her recipe box and over the years I have tried many of her recipes. That is what inspired me to start my blog. I thought maybe there would be others that would be interested in some of these classic recipes and also in the idea of tweaking those classic recipes to make them fit with the modern times. I also started the blog because I wanted to challenge myself to learn new recipes and techniques that I didn't know.
I think that in the last year or so my blog has evolved from when I started it. I think that I am more comfortable as a blogger now then when I started. I feel that I have really found my voice.
Unfortunately, I have a fulltime job, so I don't get to spend as much time on it as I want. But I figure that I spend about five hours a week, sometimes more.
I am involved in two blog groups that mainly on Facebook. One is called Food Bloggers Network and the other is called Connecticut Bloggers. The latter is for all different types of bloggers that either live or write about Connecticut. I think that I have really gained more exposure with being involved with these groups but I have really found new readers and followers by using Twitter in addition to Facebook.
Making chocolate chip cookies with my mom. I used to think that they were magic because they stayed chewy and gooey for days. Of course I now know the magic.
Well most of the recipes thus far on my site are deserts. I think that one of my favorite desserts is my peanut butter chocolate cupcakes. A fluffy chocolate cake with a peanut butter center topped with a creamy peanut butter buttercream. To get the full recipe, check it out on my blog at this link: http://bakersspoon.com/?p=442.
I don't really have any foods that I won't bake with.
Alton Brown, Paul Hollywood, Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis I love that Alton takes and concentrates on the science of cooking and baking. I love Paul's techniques. Bobby and Giada both have great ways of combining flavors and explaining techniques.
My goal for the blog was to share my baking journey with others. My mom gave me her recipe box when I was in my twenties, in it has so many of the recipes that I grew up with. I want to master these favorite recipes and share with others. I also what to push myself to become a better baker and in the process share what I learn with others. I hope that my blog is not only a place to find a good recipe but also helps readers understand more about the science of baking.
I want to thank in advance for the interest in my blog. I hope that those who come and check it out enjoy the journey that I am on. I hope that through the recipes that I share and the stories that I tell that I am able to bring joy to them.
