Hello Farmer's Wife Rambles, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog, and what inspired you to start it?

My blog has taken a few twists and turns as most blogs have. I started blogging while I was on bed rest with my second child. I was only able to get up for 15 minutes every 4 hours. Life can get pretty boring and I saw blogging as a way out of that at the time. I started primarily as a review and giveaway blog and have since changed my focus to more about my life.

Are you involved in the blogging community - how do you attract new readers?

I am involved in the blogging community and aim to attract new readers by having great recipes and articles that people can relate to. Most of my meals/recipes are simple to make but for the most part (not all) are homemade. I do believe in convenience foods but only when they are actually convenient and something I can't truly do myself.

What are your culinary influences?

My family. My mom, grandmother and aunts baked almost everything from scratch and really got us all involved in cooking. My brother can cook just as good as I can if he truly wanted to. Meals were something we bonded over and my mom used as a teaching tool.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

Rachel Ray or The Pioneer Woman. Both of these ladies are hilarious and really down to earth!

What is your earliest food memory?

I can't say for sure what my earliest memory is but one of my fondest is that we always had to save cookie dough for my grandpa. My grandma had these little bowls that all of us grand kids would set aside some cookie dough for grandpa. I don't see this happening often anymore because of the egg issue but it's something that will always stick with me.

Do you have a secret ingredient, a product you use a lot that is unexpected or that helps you save time?

I love almond extract and find a way to add it to as many desserts as I can. It doesn't match with everything but if I can add it I do.

Is there any dish, ingredient or type of food you refuse to cook? Or anything that you refuse to eat?

I don't cook sushi in my house or much
seafood
at all. Seafood has always been hit or miss for me but after I was served half a lobster on my honeymoon with it's eye still attached it's really low on my list. A few things I will make an exception for but just not a high priority in my house.

What are your goals for your blog? Where would you like to see it in the next year? Five years?

My goal is to continue to grow. I don't expect miracles and know that it takes time. A little growth each year is encouraging.

My worst food flop was...

My current oven is horrible!! We moved into our new house and the double oven with it has some serious flaws. It's taken some time to figure out how to work with it and that has created more flops than I really want to admit!

Anything else you would like to share?

Cooking doesn't have to be an art and is something we all get better at with experience. It doesn't have to be fancy but needs to be a life skill. Creating meals together provides time around the table together, can be powerful learning tools and allow families to bond.
