Why this real KING is angry with Burger King!
The chain has "royally" stuffed up this time... and heads may roll...
Burger King has "royally" annoyed some very important people with their latest ad campaign.
The chain is preparing to set up shop in Belgium for the first time this summer, and launched an advertising campaign to get some buzz going.
Belgians are invited to visit WhoIsTheKing.be, where they are shown a Game of Thrones-style message that declares “Two Kings. One crown. Who will rule?” Visitors are then supposed to vote either for King Philippe (the real, current King of Belgium) or Burger King.
If you chose not to commit treason, and try to vote for King Philippe (putting aside the absurdity of voting for a monarch), the website will try to change your mind no less than 2 tmes, before reluctantly letting you click the "yes" button (which dodges away from your cursor for a while).
Sounds like a bit of harmless fun, right? Well King Philippe doesn't see it that way.
“We told them that we were not happy with them using an image of the king in their campaign,” a representative for the royal family told Reuters, adding that it is actually illegal in Belgium to use the king's image to sell anything (even burgers).
So far, no legal action has been taken, and despite the reprimand, Burger King has declined to take down the site, for now at least.
So who will be the ultimate ruler?
