In Denmark, there is also the Danish kids' carnival known as Fastelavn. It's basically a pre-Lent tradition mostly associated with Roman Catholic countries where children can participate in many events, including an activity similar to the Mexican pinata but with a wooden barrel full of candy (back in the day, it would release a live black cat, which was considered a symbol of evil); indulging in cream-filled buns that probably look like donut to the average American; and the Danish version of trick-or-treating where children wear costumes go door to door while singing in exchange for treats (are we seeing a theme here?).
