New England Clam Chowder

New England clam chowder was the first variety of clam chowder widely served in the United States, and is still the most popular. The cream-based clam soup is filled with potatoes, onions, carrots, pork, and—of course—the eponymous mollusk. Fun fact: in 1939, Maine made tomato-based Manhattan clam chowder illegal in the state, clearly showing where they stand on the issue.
