Cotton Candy

The smell of cotton candy takes us back to summer funfairs and amusement parks and is the ultimate dopamine-triggering snack. Whether pink, purple, blue, or yellow, this treat is unlike anything else. Read on to see how you can make it at home (without a machine)!

Ingredients (for one candy floss cloud):

  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp fruit extract (we like raspberry but you can choose your flavor!)
  • 2 drops food coloring (we like pink but you can choose your color!)
  • A lollipop stick

Instructions:

  1. Place a sheet of parchment paper down on your kitchen counter.
  2. Separately, put the sugar, water, corn syrup and salt in a saucepan and place over medium-heat.
  3. Let the sugar melt into the other liquids. Once everything is mixed, make sure not to get any liquid on the sides of the pan as sugar crystals can form.
  4. While the mixture is still hot, transfer it into a heat proof container. Mix in the extract and the coloring. Make sure to keep stiring the mixture as it will begin to solidify if you don't.
  5. Put the mixture in a bowl, and dip a whisk into it. Allow the mixture to drip off the whisk a little, before drizzling the rest on to the parchment paper - make sure the drizzled lines are as thin as possible. Keep going until you've used all the mixture and the lines have hardened.
  6. Take the lollipop stick and roll it over the lines of mixture at a steady pace, making sure it sticks to the lollipop at all times.
  7. Once you’ve spun all the syrup on the lollipop sticks, you’re pretty much done so enjoy immediately!
