Many gas grills also have flame tamers or flavorizer bars to help prevent flare ups and add extra "grilled" flavor to your foods. The latter occurs when your drippings and juices fall onto the flavorizers and vaporize back up to your food, giving it that unmistakable smoky taste. Over time, these bars will get dirty easily. The best way to clean them is to start by firing up the grill and letting the flames incinerate most of the residue and grease on the bars for 10 to 15 minutes. Then turn off the grill and let it cool completely. Use a grill brush to scrape off any remaining bits or a putty knife for stubborn residue. To finish, give them one last go-over with a soapy dish rag.
