4. Can Culleretes - 1786
Where is it? Barcelona, north east coast of Spain
Modernist-inspired with its impressive paintings and photographs of celebrities, Culleretes is one of Barcelona's most emblematic restaurants.
Although this was not its original name, it is said that a dedicated waiter used to shout "Noies, culleretes!" or "Girls, spoons!" in English, to the women who worked washing dishes in the kitchen when the pot for the cutlery was empty. From there, the regulars began to say "Let's go to Can Culleretes" to refer to the popular restaurant, thus establishing its new name and reputation.
Despite being a well-known place, its prices are quite affordable. They serve traditional food made with fresh market ingredients, such as cannelloni, Catalan beans, meatballs with cuttlefish, stewed quail ... the list goes on.
If you end up visiting at some point, make sure to enjoy a glass of Spanish wine too, although their choice is so varied, it'll be hard to pick which one!
