The average Thanksgiving dinner costs...
less than $50 for American families, according to the 34th annual survey of Thanksgiving costs, by the American Farm Bureau Federation. In 2019, the average cost was $48.91. This includes enough food to feed 10 people (less than $5 per person) with all the traditional dishes: turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, buttered rolls, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream, plus coffee and milk for dessert. That includes leftovers. Of course, it doesn't include the cost of alcoholic beverages, and that can be a game-changer in terms of overall expenses. Also, if you're feeding a larger crowd or want to get fancy with your side dishes, don't expect to fall into the low-price threshold. And if you add a big juicy glazed ham, check the price, which doubled last year to 91.53 cents a pound.
