Mixing Raw and Cooked Meats

A surprisingly common mistake made when grilling is putting cooked meat directly back onto the plate the raw meat was sitting on. This is a truly bad idea as germs from the raw meat can easily be transferred to the good stuff. The easiest way to avoid this is to bring a second clean plate for the cooked meat, and ask somebody to take the raw meat plate away as soon as it's emptied, or flip it upside down so you won't be tempted to use it.
