This crockpot pulled pork is a slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth dish made with juicy pork shoulder simmered in a tangy barbecue sauce. Perfect for sandwiches or paired with coleslaw, it's a crowd-pleaser with tangy flavor and makes a versatile dish that everyone will love!
Ingredients (serves 8-10):
- 4 lb. pork shoulder (also called pork butt)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cups barbecue sauce
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp. paprika
- 2 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: sandwich buns, coleslaw for serving
Instructions:
- Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels and season generously with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the crockpot. Lay the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions.
- Pour the barbecue sauce, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce over the pork.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is incredibly tender and easily falls apart.
- Remove the pork from the slow cooker and use two forks to shred it. Skim any excess fat from the sauce in the slow cooker.
- Add the shredded pork back into the slow cooker, stirring it into the sauce to fully coat.
- Pile the pulled pork onto sandwich buns or serve alongside coleslaw for a classic pairing.
