As long as there are no labor complications, most new mothers go right back to their regular job once their maternity leave is over. Models, however, have to fight for it. That means getting their bodies immediately back into the shape that they were before.
After a natural birth, moms can resume physical activity in 3-4 weeks. After a C-section, it's recommended to wait at least 2-3 months. While a normal woman will go through this process slowly, models resort to personal trainers, who subject them to strict workout regimes.
Alessandra Ambrosio enlisted the assistance of Leandro Carvalho, a famous celebrity trainer. "The first four to six weeks of training consist of pure cardio, involving dance, swimming and cardio sculpt. After six weeks of cardio, the fitness routine should change to interval training: 20 minutes of cardio, followed by muscle work of 16 to 20 reps light weightlifting, then switching back and forth between cardio and weightlifting for the duration of the workout," explained the trainer to NY Daily News.
After giving birth to her second daughter, Sienna, model Adriana Lima revealed that her gynecologist gave her the go-ahead (three weeks after delivery) to immediately start up boxing with Michael Olajide. Two daily sessions of three hours each. Five days a week. A bit of a reality check for those who envy the quick and "miraculous" recovery of models...
