What's the risk? Arsenic. 

 But what is this famous poison doing in rice?! In fact, it's quite normal for food and water to contain trace amounts of arsenic, which in such small quantities is harmless.

 Rice, however, is grown in flooded conditions, which means that any arsenic present in the water or soil gets absorbed and locked into the rice grains. As a result, rice contains 10 - 20 times more arsenic than other cereal grains. Consuming elevated amounts of arsenic is highly toxic and can cause cancer, heart disease, stroke and death. 

But that doesn't mean you should stop eating rice! In fact, there's a very simple way to remove the harmful arsenic...
