Buying In Bulk Doesn't Always Save You Money: 7 Things To Watch Out For

Not everything lasts forever

Just because something doesn't go rancid or begin to rot, it doesn't mean that it will last forever. You should never buy dried herbs and spices in bulk (unless you're running a restaurant of course), as they lose their flavor after 2-3 years. Flour generally only lasts 6 months, or 1 year for very high quality brands, and cooking oils should be thrown out after 1 year. Other household goods you shouldn't over-buy are disinfectants and cleaners, which begin to lose their efficacy after 3 months.
