Best By, Use By, Sell By: What Do These Dates On Your Groceries Really Mean?

Expires On

According to the USDA, the only food required to display a use-by date that indicates the safety of the product is baby formula. Dating the product is the responsibility of the manufacturer, and it's very important not to use the formula after the date displayed. The packaging will indicate either "expires on" or "use by." You should throw out unused portions after that date.
