Ingredients

  • 1. For poornam:
  • Chana dal - 1 cup
  • Jaggery - 3/4 cup
  • Shredded coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Elachi - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ghee - 1 tablespoon
  • 2. For kolukkattai:
  • Raw rice: rinsed in water and dried...Grind it.
  • Water.
  • Salt and gingely Oil.

Preparation

Step 1

Dry roast bengal gram till light brown and soak in water for 1 hour.

Step 2

Blend soaked gram and coconut without adding water.
Add jaggery to this mixture and grind to a fine paste.

Step 3

In a deep pan and add ghee and shallow fry the ground mixture till it resembles crumbles...Finally add elaichi.

Step 4

For the kolukkati add 1 cup wet rice flour to 1/2 cup boiling water+salt and oil. Keep some boiling water on the side...if needed add for a smooth consistency. Make a mould of choice, add the poornam and steam for 10 minutes in the idlimaker.
