Ingredients

  • 1 pork picnic shoulder roast
  • 2cans caffeine free root beer
  • Salt
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1tblsp ground black pepper
  • Dash garlic powder
  • Dash onion powder
  • 2 tblsp liquid smoke
  • 1/2 cup pork cooking liquid

Preparation

Step 1

Rub roast all over with salt. Sear on all sides on high heat in frypan until lightly browned. Put into large crock pot and pour root beer all over. Cover and cook on high heat setting for 4 to 6 hours.

Step 2

Drain the cooking liquid saving all of it. Shred the pork with forks. Add 1 to 2 cups of cooking liquid back to shredded meat to moisten.

Step 3

Mix together the rest of the ingredients in a separate bowl. This is the barbecue sauce. Mix the sauce into the meat mix and serve on buns
