This Amazing 5-Year-Old Is a "Superhero" for Homeless Cats
He wants nothing more than to help as many as he can!
When he was just 3 years old, little Shon decided he wanted to make a difference in the lives of the street cats in his aunts' neighborhood.
Kris Papiernik and Kia Griffin are independent cat rescuers. For 10 years, they've looked after a number of different homeless feline colonies in unwelcoming parts around Philadelphia. They care for more than 45 cats, every single day!
Some of the strays can be rescued and adopted out, but others are too wild to ever be domesticized. In these cases, the women can only offer food and water and try to get them spayed or neutered, as well as given any medical attention they might need.
And their nephew Shon wanted to help too!
“We were a little hesitant at first because they’re feral cats, and we thought they’re going to run from a rambunctious 3-year-old,” Papiernik admitted to The Dodo.
Instead, though, the cats loved him. It was as if they could sense his kindness and love from day one. Even the cats who shied away from the adults were drawn to little Shon.
“He’d scratch their bellies and scratch their heads," Papiernik said. "It was amazing to see these cats who wouldn’t even allow us to touch them, but immediately took to him. He must have this magical effect that the cats can pick up.”
There was one cat in particular that Shon's presence had a huge impact on.
According to his aunt, “We couldn’t get Bug neutered or anything because he wouldn’t come to us, and he wouldn’t come near the trap. But when Shon came around and started feeding him, Bug came immediately to him and, ever since then, Bug has been a friendly cat.”
We're amazed by little Shon's unconditional love for all these cats and his determination to help them in whatever way he can. It's a great reminder that anyone, no matter how small, can make a difference in the world.
Keep up the incredible work, Shon!
