If you've ever stopped to think about why you're pouring milk into a bowl of wheat or grains or sugary bobbing bits, you're not alone! We were wondering too, and here's what we found out:
Wheat and grain have been eaten as breakfast foods most likely since we began to harvest them. Originally, water was used to soak grains, creating porridge. This wasn't the most tasty breakfast, however, considering the more common options (at the time) were toast and meat. So, people would add cream to their cereals in order to give it more oomph. Eventually, cream might have replaced water completely, and as we see today, milk became the ingredient to mix with cereal.
