Caramel

Caramel is simply made out of cooked sugar. It’s used to make many different desserts like crème caramel or caramel sauce.

To make homemade caramel, pour some sugar into a saucepan, add a little bit of water and start to heat. Do not stir! Shake the pan a little bit forwards and backwards to make sure that the heat is evenly distributed, and pay attention to the color. Take the caramel off the heat when you’ve achieved the color that you want.

To finish, add a little knob of butter or a drizzle of heavy cream for an extra rich flavor.
