18 Traditional British Desserts to Celebrate King Charles' Coronation

Lemon Syllabub

Light and elegant, this dessert can be whipped up in less than 10  min. The British classic dates back to the 16th century and is perfect for a spring garden party. Pair with chopped white peaches, raspberry puree, or even grated white chocolate.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1/3 cup (65 g) sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) sherry
  • 2 tbsp cognac 
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Zest of 2 lemons 
  • 1 3/4 cups (420 g) heavy cream
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Mix the sugar, sherry, cognac, lemon juice and zest of 1 lemon in a bowl. 
  2. Cover and let sit at room temperature for 12 hours to allow the flavors to meld. 
  3. Add the heavy cream and pinch of nutmeg to the mixture and whisk until soft peaks form.
  4. Spoon into 4 glasses and garnish with the remaining lemon zest.
  5. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 shortcrust pastry
  • 3 cups / 750 g. of cherries
  • 1/3 cup / 60 g. of sugar
  • 2/3 cup / 60 g. of almond flour
  • 4 tbsp. of brown sugar
  • Pistachios
  • A dash of milk

METHOD: 

  1. Mix the cherries and sugar together. Let stand 20 minutes.
  2. Spread or roll out the shortcrust pastry, sprinkle with almond powder and brown sugar.
  3. Place the cherries in the center of the dough, leaving about 2 inches of free dough on the edges. Fold in the edges.
  4. Brush with milk (this will make the crust go golden), sprinkle with brown sugar and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F/180°C.
  5. Top with a handful of chopped pistachios, and serve!
