Pancakes
Pancakes are an everyday American food that, believe it or not, are thousands of years old!
Historical records suggest that pancakes existed in different forms in various ancient cultures. For example, the ancient Greeks called them 'tagenites' and the Romans called them 'placenta', and both were made from a mixture of flour, water, and sometimes eggs.
In Judaism, the festival of Purim is celebrated. One of the traditional foods eaten during this time are 'blintzes', which are pancakes filled with cheese and fruit. Also in ancient China, a pancake made from grains and water was supposedly popular.
