Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids came to America in 1985 but are supposedly based on a product or inspired by a product called Mars Men, created by Frank Galatolie in the early 1970's.

Later that decade,  they were produced in Ontario, Canada by the Allen Candy Company, formed by Cadbury and Malaco Licorice Company. Speaking of Mars, with all of the excitement surrounding space shuttle creation and operations in the 70's, the Sour Patch Kids originally came in the shape of martians.

They were changed to kids following the invention and success of Cabbage Patch Kids, and today, they still resemble children and are owned by Mondelez International.

They come in multiple flavors, but the classic ones include lemon, lime, orange, raspberry and a berry flavor that was added later.
