Tootsie Roll

The Tootsie Roll is one of the older American candies, having been invented in 1896 by Leo Hirschfield, an Austrian Jewish immigrant who patented the technique that gives tootsie rolls their hard-to-soft, chewy texture.

Hirschfield named the candy for his daughter, Clara, who he affectionately called "Tootsie." The candy was hand-rolled and originally sold for just one cent. Originally marketed and produced under the name Sweets Company of America, the name was changed to Tootsie Roll Industries in 1966. T

Today, you can find Tootsie Rolls in different sizes and also at the center of Tootsie Pops.

This French tarte tatin is golden, caramelized apple perfection!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 puff pastry
  • 6 apples, sliced
  • 3 oz.  chilled butter, chopped into chunks
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

 

METHOD

  1. Roll out a puff pastry.
  2. Lay out the apple slices in a pan.
  3. Add chunks of butter on top of the apples.
  4. Sprinkle the brown sugar on top.
  5. Cook for 20 minutes in oven at 350°F, to caramelize the apples.
  6. Place puff pastry on top of the caramelized apples.
  7. Cook for 15 minutes at 350°F.
  8. Enjoy!
