Laffy Taffy

The invention of Laffy Taffy didn't occur until the 1970's, when it was originally named "Breich's Caramels" with the different flavor names indicated on each package, despite the fact that it was in fact a fruit-flavored taffy candy.

The company eventually changed the name to "Breich's Laffy Taffy," with the "laffy" part of its name referring to silly jokes printed on the inside of each wrapper. The jokes are often witty, pun-based or a play on words and sent to the company by children whose names also appear on the wrapper.

The first Laffy Taffy pieces were sold in small square shapes, but today, they come in small or large rectangles and are produced by Nestlé.
