5. Compost Your Pumpkin

Did you know you can compost your pumpkin? Creating your own compost is easy, inexpensive, and reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill. Even better, it'll make for a super nutrient-rich soil before too long.

If your leftover pumpkin is going to the compost, make sure to deseed it (you can put the seeds to one side and toast them; they're great in salads or on soups!). Make sure the pumpkin is clean and if possible, cut into chunks as this makes it easier to break down. Allow at least 8 weeks for the pumpkin to begin properly rotting.

Good to know: If you have decorated your pumpkin with paint, glitter, or any sort of glue, you won't be able to put it in the compost bin.
