Mulled wine is the adult sibling of hot apple cider, and it's just a little cozier thanks to the alcohol. Featuring nearly the same blend of spices, mulled wine might be slightly more popular during the holiday season, but we start drinking it as soon as the leaves turn crimson.
Here's how to make the perfect mulled wine at home.Cozy goodness!
Ingredients:
1 bottle dry red wine
1/4 cup brandy
1 orange (sliced into rounds)
8 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
3 tbsp honey
Instructions:
In a saucepan, mix wine, brandy, orange slices, cloves, cinnamon, star anise and 2 tbsp honey. Stir.
Simmer the mixed liquids over medium-heat. Avoid letting it bubble as you do not want to boil off the alcohol. Reduce heat to low and cover. Allow to simmer for 2 hours.
Using a strainer, strain the mixture. Remove the orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anaise, and set aside.
Add a 1 tbsp honey and stir, serve in a cup, and garnish with the used orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anaise.
