Maple Pecan Bars

Maple pecan bars are a sweet, nutty treat made with rich maple syrup and crunchy pecans, layered over a buttery shortbread crust. These bars offer a perfect balance of sweetness and texture, making them an irresistible dessert for any occasion. You can easily substitute pecans with your favorite nut, such as peanuts or macadamia, for a delightful twist on this classic treat.

Ingredients (for 12 servings):

For the Crust:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ? cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt until the mixture forms a crumbly dough. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Bake the crust for 15 min. or until lightly golden. Set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, brown sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Stir in the chopped pecans (or your preferred nuts).
  5. Pour the maple pecan filling over the baked crust, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 25-30 min. until the filling is set and the top is golden.
  7. Let the bars cool completely before cutting into squares.
