Mushroom Marsala

Mushroom marsala is a luxurious and earthy sauce that features sautéed mushrooms simmered in a flavorful Marsala wine reduction, finished with a touch of cream. This decadent sauce is perfect for drizzling over angel hair pasta or serving alongside warm bread, making it an ideal choice for a cozy dinner that’s both comforting and sophisticated.

Ingredients (for 4 servings):

  • 1 lb (16 oz) mushrooms, sliced (cremini or button)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup Marsala wine
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 min., stirring occasionally, until they are browned and have released their moisture.
  2. Stir in the chopped onion and garlic. Cook for another 3-4 min., until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  3. Pour in the Marsala wine, scraping the bottom of the skillet to release any browned bits. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 min., reducing the wine by half.
  4. Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Simmer for an additional 2-3 min. until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Toss the sauce with cooked angel hair pasta, or serve it alongside warm bread for dipping. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
