Mushroom marsala is a luxurious and earthy sauce that features sautéed mushrooms simmered in a flavorful Marsala wine reduction, finished with a touch of cream. This decadent sauce is perfect for drizzling over angel hair pasta or serving alongside warm bread, making it an ideal choice for a cozy dinner that’s both comforting and sophisticated.
Ingredients (for 4 servings):
1 lb (16 oz) mushrooms, sliced (cremini or button)
3 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
¾ cup Marsala wine
½ cup heavy cream
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 min., stirring occasionally, until they are browned and have released their moisture.
Stir in the chopped onion and garlic. Cook for another 3-4 min., until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
Pour in the Marsala wine, scraping the bottom of the skillet to release any browned bits. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 min., reducing the wine by half.
Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Simmer for an additional 2-3 min. until the sauce thickens slightly.
Toss the sauce with cooked angel hair pasta, or serve it alongside warm bread for dipping. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
