Australia: Gilled Barramundi

Known for its mild, buttery flavor and delicate texture, grilled barramundi is a staple in Australian cuisine, best enjoyed with a simple blend of lemon, garlic, and fresh herbs. This dish is all about letting the quality of the fish shine, making it a light yet flavorful choice for a romantic meal. Pair it with: A light salad, roasted vegetables, or grilled asparagus for a complete Valentine’s Day dinner!

Ingredients (for 2 servings):

  • 2 barramundi fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  2. Pat the barramundi fillets dry with a paper towel. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Brush the mixture over both sides of the fillets and let sit for 5-10 min. to enhance the flavors.
  4. Place the fillets skin-side down on the grill. Cook for 4-5 min. until the skin is crispy, then carefully flip and cook for another 2-3 min. until the fish is opaque and flakes easily.
  5. Transfer to plates, garnish with lemon wedges and extra fresh herbs, and enjoy with a glass of crisp white wine.
