Red Velvet Cake

A classic and elegant dessert, Red Velvet Cake is perfect for special occasions and romantic moments.

Ingredients (serve 8-10):

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1 lb (16 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In another large bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and beat until well combined.

Assembly:

  1. Once the cakes are completely cool, place one cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
  2. Spread a thick layer of cream cheese frosting over the top of the first cake layer.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top of the frosting.
  4. Apply a crumb coat (a thin layer of frosting) around the entire cake to seal in the crumbs. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  5. Apply the remaining frosting to the cake, smoothing it out with a spatula or knife.
  6. Garnish with cake crumbs, red sprinkles, or any decorations you like.

Enjoy this beautiful and delicious Red Velvet Cake with your loved ones!
