George W. Bush: Cheeseburger Pizza

A fun twist on two American favorites, cheeseburger pizza was a well-known favorite of George W. Bush. This dish combines juicy ground beef, melted cheese, and classic burger toppings on a crispy pizza crust for a delicious, all-in-one meal.

Ingredients (for 4-6 servings):

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • ¼ cup chopped pickles
  • 1 small tomato, diced
  • Shredded lettuce, for garnish (optional)
  • Crumbled cooked bacon, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to fit a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Spread a mixture of ketchup and mustard over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  5. Evenly distribute the cooked beef over the cheese, then top with red onion and pickles.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, then bake for 12-15 min. or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven and top with diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Add crumbled bacon if desired.
  8. Slice and serve immediately, and enjoy!
