Do We Need Them?

Considering that we've already succeeded in growing bananas without seeds, some have asked if it would be possible to grow bananas without these threads. 

To that question, Ph.D. in physical/inorganic chemistry Nicholas D. Gillitt replied: "Yes it is potentially possible, but if {they} and are not truly bothersome, what would be the driver? ...We would feel it is a much more important extension of resources to spend research money on breeding disease-resistant or increased nutrient content varieties."
