For that price?

Buffet meals are a great way to eat on the cheap, so how do the restaurants stay profitable? Low operating costs. By Buffet Boss's estimation, the average consumer only eats $6 worth of food in a $15 buffet. Much of the profit is also made on drinks, which are generally not included in the cover price.

Interestingly, greedy eaters are less common than you might expect. Even when people do deliberately trying to scam the system, they are rarely repeat customers, and don't cost the restaurant more than they paid to eat in the first place.

And the typical customer? "Regulars do not eat too much... Most are very picky eaters who love the idea of getting anything whenever they want."
