The country of wine and cheese has woken up to the harsh realities of sexual assault. In 2017, in response to the wildly successful #MeToo campaign, they launched the hashtag #BalanceTonPorc. The French government has recently announced a new law that would charge street harassers at least 90 euros in fines. Although offenders would be hard to catch in the act, Minister of Gender Equality Marlene Schiappa believes the law would strongly discourage men from catcalling in the future.
